Ep. 54: Interview with Dr. Melissa Farley, Founder of Prostitution Research and Education

Dr. Melissa Farley has practiced as a clinical psychologist and researcher for 40 years. She brings that experience to her consultations with agencies, governments, and advocates for prostituted and trafficked women. She has articulated the harms of prostitution, pornography, and trafficking as an expert witness in forensic evaluations and has been categorized as a legal expert on the effects of sexual violence against women and children, post traumatic stress disorder, dissociation, prostitution and trafficking. Dr. Farley’s research has been instrumental in helping to change policy on prostitution in countries around the globe.

Among many other scholarly articles on prostitution, Dr. Farley also wrote Prostitution and Trafficking in Nevada: Making the Connections, 2007 following a 2 year research study in Nevada. In addition to describing the situations of 45 women who Farley interviewed in the legal brothels, the book connects legal and illegal prostitution, domestic and international trafficking, political corruption, and organized crime in Nevada.
